Iredell-Statesville Schools will begin offering free dinners to some students enrolled in after-school programs, the district announced.
The After School Supper Program, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will connect students with healthy food after class during school days.
“For many children, this is their only opportunity to access a healthy meal after their school day ends,” the district said in a press release. “Partnering with organizations that extend the day for our students, this opportunity for healthy food at the end of the school day may provide some relief for fragile family situations.”
