Since 2015, No Kid Hungry NC has received funding as part of the Child Nutrition Project of the UNC Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed). SNAP-Ed is a federal nutrition program with the goal of helping SNAP-eligible individuals make healthy choices on a limited budget that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Child Nutrition Project utilizes direct nutrition education and policy, systems, and environmental change (PSE) strategies to address this goal.
The Child Nutrition Project offers nutrition education, including Cooking Matters for Kids and Cooking Matters at the Store programs, in Orange County, NC. Nutrition education is offered in locations such as afterschool programs, summer meals sites, and grocery stores. PSE strategies used by the Child Nutrition Project focus on providing technical assistance around increasing access to healthy foods served through underutilized federal Child Nutrition Programs. Current programs of focus include School Breakfast, Summer Meals programs, and At-Risk Afterschool Meals.
