Teachers Stay Busy Providing Hot Meals, Support To Those In Need After Hurricane

Oaks Road Elementary School, like so many other schools in Craven County, is closed due to Hurricane Florence.

Children won’t be coming back to the school for at least another week. There is still no power and a lot of water damage to the school as cleanup continues after Hurricane Florence hit Eastern North Carolina last week.

Birmingham reporter Lauren Walsh spoke with some of the teachers who are working overtime, cooking lunch and dinner for the students, families and anyone who needs a hot meal. They’ve been doing this every day since the storm hit while also trying to locate what many believe are as much as 80 percent of students misplaced since the storm.
