The Official Mascot of the NC Summer Nutrition Program for Kids:
Ray F. Sun

clouds 2

Meet Ray, the official mascot of the NC Summer Nutrition Program for Kids. His mission is to spread fun in the sun and make sure everyone knows about free summer meals for kids in North Carolina. Ray appears across the state at meal sites and other events, so make sure to find a site near you and keep an eye out for him.

Ray was born in 2017 as part of a contest for students across NC to create new artwork to help increase the visibility of Summer Nutrition Programs. A group of students from Corinth Holders High School in Johnston County submitted the design. The same contest also yielded a new logo for the NC Summer Nutrition Program:

He then made his public debut in person at the 2018 NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference, in February 2018.

Clockwise from top left: (1) Ray makes a friend during a summer meals kickoff event at Atrium Health's University Hospital in Charlotte(2) Ray with nutrition staff and (3) students on the last day of class at Coker-Wimberly Elementary School in Edgecombe County(4) Ray visits the NC House of Representatives with NC Superintendent Mark Johnson, NC Department of Public Instruction staff, and No Kid Hungry NC.
