Fast Facts about Nutrition Education

  • Statewide, only 58 low-income children eat school breakfast for every 100 who eat school lunch. Offer nutrition education around the benefits of starting the day with a healthy breakfast.
  • At-Risk Afterschool Meals sites are required to offer enrichment activities. Offering nutrition education activities is a great way to meet this requirement.
  • Nutrition education is a great option for an enrichment opportunity at summer meals sites. Enrichment activities can help attract kids to summer meals sites. The USDA also recommends offering nutrition education along with the introduction of new foods, as children will be more likely to try and like them.
