New Hanover County Schools’ Child Nutrition Division Earned Two Awards

New Hanover County Schools’ Child Nutrition Division has earned two awards for the summer food service program, the 2018 Going the Distance in Innovation Award and the 2018 Superior Site Award.

“Our judges were very impressed with your applications, and we were thrilled to hear about the best practices you implemented in your program this year,” stated McCamy Holloway, Summer Nutrition Consultant for N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

As a 2018 N.C. Summer Nutrition Champion, NCDPI and No Kid Hungry North Carolina recognized New Hanover County Schools and presented Child Nutrition Director Imer Smith with a certificate and banner at the 2018 SummerPalooza! Summit on Nov. 14 in Greenville, where she also gave a presentation on NHCS’ summer food service program.

SummerPalooza! Summits are daylong celebrations and planning events developed to increase participation in and expand awareness of North Carolina’s Summer Nutrition Programs for children. This year’s theme “Strength in Numbers” represents a focus on collaboration between diverse partners to create more sustainable and successful summer programs.
