6th Annual
North Carolina School Breakfast Challenge

No Kid Hungry NC is proud to announce its 6th annual North Carolina School Breakfast Challenge. The 2018 Challenge once again focuses on feeding more kids healthy meals in your school or school district.

Since the start of No Kid Hungry in North Carolina in 2011, incredible progress has been made in increasing the number of students eating school breakfast. But we still have a long way to go.

THE GOAL: Raise participation by changing HOW you serve breakfast in your school or school district.

The winners will be the three schools at each level (elementary, middle, and high school) with the greatest overall increase in school breakfast participation. They will be awarded prizes and recognized at the 2019 NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference in February, 2019.

School districts that reach the 70% milestone will also be recognized.

WHO: Every school and school district in North Carolina. There is no sign-up or registration required. Your school is already in the challenge.

WHEN: Start planning now! Challenge results will compare meal claim data from October 2017 and October 2018, provided by our partners at the NC Department of Public Instruction.

HOW: Innovative ways of serving breakfast—including Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab and Go, and Second Chance Breakfast (served after the school day starts)—break down barriers, making it more accessible to hungry students.

Last year’s winners included the school of 2017 NC Principal of the Year Jason Griffin:
